2017 End of Year Dates

With the end of year fast approaching, we have a number of events and important dates to keep in mind:

The office will close on Thursday 14 December and reopen on Tuesday 23 January 2018.

Year 10 Camps

Year 10 Camps run from Monday 27 November - Friday 1 December. A gentle reminder that some may still have a balance owing for camps. If this is you, or if you are unsure, please contact the office. Students will be issued with camp letters outlining full trip details and permission forms in the coming weeks - please return these as soon as possible. A reminder, camps are a privilege, not a right, and that the school reserves the right to remove a student from their selected camp. Year 8 Testing

As part of the enrolment process for 2018, Awatapu College will be undertaking testing in Maths and English for new Year 9 students coming from our feeder intermediate schools. The testing will be held on Friday 17 November 2017 at 9am in the Awatapu College Auditorium. 

If any student is unable to attend on this day, their parent/caregiver must contact the Awatapu College office on 356 4817 to make other arrangements.

Students should arrive to meet at 9am in the Auditorium for a 9.10am start. Testing should be finished by 11am.

Parents and caregivers of students from Monrad Intermediate and Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School are asked to ensure their children are at Awatapu College by 9am and a staff member from their intermediate will escort them back to their school after the testing. Parents and caregivers of students from other feeder schools are asked to ensure their children are at Awatapu College by 9am and picked up at 11am to be returned to their school. 

NZQA Exams

NZQA exams run Thursday 9 November - Friday 1 December. All exams are three hours, starting at either 9.30am or 2.00pm, and will take place in the College Auditorium unless stated otherwise. A copy of the exam timetable is available here.

Senior Honours Awards

Senior Honours Awards will be held on Wednesday 8 November at the Regent Theatre at 7.30pm.

Students receiving an award must attend the practice on the same day. These students (along with all other students) will attend school in the morning as per normal. Buses will leave from the school for the Regent Theatre at 10am and return to school at approximately 12 noon. They must travel by bus – private cars are not permitted. A roll will be taken at the Theatre.

Attendance at Honours Awards on Wednesday evening is compulsory for all Year 11, 12 and 13 students. If students are unable to attend, a note must be presented to a Head of House. Students must be seated in the Theatre by 7.20pm at the latest.

Year 11 students receiving an award must be in full school uniform. Girls must wear black leather lace up shoes and black stockings. Boys must wear black leather lace up shoes and school socks. Sandals are not permitted. All other students must be dressed formally. The College mufti code applies – please note that shorts, jeans, tee-shirts and sport shoes are not acceptable dress for Honours Awards.

A reminder, the school will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 8 November. If your child requires supervision until 3.15pm, please contact the school office.

Whakamana Taiohi Awards

On Thursday 2 November we will be celebrating our Whakamana Taiohi Awards. These awards are to acknowledge the success and achievements of our Maori and Pasifika students. Parents and caregivers are invited to attend the awards at 6.30pm in the College Auditorium. We look forward to seeing you there.
