Medal Brilliance

Congratulations to Abii Bingle who received the University of South Wales Medal in recognition of her oustanding achievement in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) in 2015.

This award is given to students with the top score in each subject in each year level across New Zealand and Australia. Abii receives her medal for taking out the top ICAS prize in English in 2015. This is an incredible achievement - well done, Abii!

Sporting Success!

Congratulations to our cricket champs, Jasmine Waters and Courtney Infield, who have both been selected in Manawatu Representative Women's cricket teams for 2016. Both girls represented the Manawatu region in 2015 and we are delighted that they have proven their worth and have been re-selected for this year. Well done, girls!

Congratulations, also, to the following atheletes who competed at the New Zealand National Secondary School Athletics Championships in Timaru at the end of 2015:

Hayden Wilson: 3rd 200m, 3rd Long Jump and 4th 100m
Braden Kendall: 5th Long Jump, 6th 200m and 6th 100m

Both Hayden and Braden did extremely well and we are very proud of their results.

Swimming Sports 2016

Thursday 18 February saw the annual Awatapu College Swimming Sports held at the Lido pool.

As usual, the championship titles were fiercely fought for and there were some close battles among the age groups. Of special note was Amy Smith who broke her own Open Girls 50m Butterfly record from last year – this is a great achievement – well done, Amy!

It was unfortunate that the weather did not play its part meaning the whole school tabloids event had to be cancelled. However a great day was had by those competing and we had some fantastic results from our champions.

Well done to everyone who took part – now bring on Athletics!

2016 Welcome!

A big welcome to all our new and returning students for 2016.

Term One is off to a great start with a number of events already underway. On 3 February we held a welcoming powhiri for our new students and staff - this was a great success with over 300 people attending. A big thank you and welcome to those who attended the Year 9 BBQ on 16 February as well. This was a great opportunity for parents and staff to meet, and it was pleasing to welcome so many new families to the College.

Term One is full of activities, including School Athletics on 11 March and Festival of Cultures in Week 7. To keep track on what's on please refer to the calendar for a full list of events.
