Celebrating Maori Language

On Friday, 24 June a group of students travelled to Linton Army Camp to support one of our promising Te Reo students, Le'ché Kingi-McCavana, as she competed in the Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Competition. Le'ché competed in the Senior English (Korimako) section and delivered a beautiful speech, which demonstrated her impressive vocabulary and understanding of both the English and Māori language.

Le'ché was also interviewed by the Manawatu Standard and featured in the Weekend edition of the newspaper to speak about this experience and her passion for Te Reo. Well done, Le'ché, we are very proud of your achievements.

Our 400 Block Kapa Haka group celebrated Māori Language Week by performing at the Summerset Rest Home. The residents appreciated our visit and particularly enjoyed engaging with our students after their performance.

Arts Week

In Week 9 of Term Two, students enjoyed yet another successful Arts Week. Events included the Year 11 Drama Performance, the Soiree, the Big House Dance Off, Fashion in Print, the Grand Lip Sync Talent Quest, and Fantasy Face Painting. Student art work was also on display at a local cafe.

The highlight of the week was the Soiree on Wednesday, 29 June and Thursday, 30 June. It is always so rewarding to see student's hard work and talent shine through on stage. Thank you to friends and family who came to watch the performances.

Well done to all students involved. A big thank you to the Performing Arts, Music and Arts Departments for their work organising the events also.

Japanese Trivia Champs

Congratulations to the Japanese students who participated in the Japanese Trivia Quiz at the IPU Campus on Friday, 17 June. Team One, Abii Bingle, Khukhushee Henery, Joriel Magno and Josh Rickard, were the overall winners of the night scoring the trophy for a second year in a row, and Team Two, Thomas Budd, Ellie Kilty, Bex Ellery and Ashleigh Squires, won 2nd place. Well done to both teams!

Business Studies Boot Camp

During the Term One school holidays, two of our Year 13 students, Kris Mantjika and Zara Lawton, attended a business boot camp held at the Massey Campus in Auckland. The five-day boot camp gave the business students a unique opportunity to learn about the world of business and taught them valuable skills that they can apply to their studies. Around 70 students from more than 30 schools attended the course, with Kris being voted most likely to become a future CEO. Indeed a valuable experience for these students - we look forward to what lies ahead in their promising futures!
