Year 10 Camp Week

Year 10 Camps run from Monday 26 November - Friday 30 November. A gentle reminder that some may still have a balance owing for camps. If this is you, or if you are unsure, please contact the office. Students have been issued with camp letters outlining full trip details and permission forms - please return these as soon as possible. A reminder, camps are a privilege, not a right, and that the school reserves the right to remove a student from their selected camp. If you have any questions regarding Year 10 Camps, please contact Mrs Newton by phoning 06 356 4817 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Target Shooting

Congratulations to the Awatapu College #1 Target Shooting Team comprised of Henry Fyles, Xavier Hintz and Kerrin Stuart who came 1st in New Zealand in the Rest Grade at the Target Shooting NZ Secondary Schools Postal Shooting Competition recently. Kerrin narrowly missed out on the Overall Top Boy award, coming 2nd on count-back after scores were tied.

Snow Camp 2018

In the last week of Term Three, 29 students and four teachers left for the Snow Experience camp. We arrived on a sunny afternoon and walked to the lodge. Some students played in the snow behind the lodge before dinner. On Monday we woke to snow falling and a misty mountain. Not to be daunted, we rented gear and arrived for lessons in the morning and afternoon. Students were placed into ability groups, though most students were beginners. On Tuesday, despite our high hopes, the weather had not improved so the group spent the day on the Happy Valley slopes (the only area that was open). On Wednesday everything was on hold due to the declining weather so the decision was made to catch a shuttle down the mountain and return early.  We certainly had a snow experience as the snow around the lodge was now nearly half a metre deep. Despite the weather, the students had a great time and experienced the magic mountain of Ruapehu in all her moods. Roll on next year, and let’s hope for better weather!
