Holden Street Smart - Road Safety Programme

Holden Street Smart is a hands-on driver-skills programme that equips young Kiwis with the tools needed to safely drive our roads, well prepared and confident. The Programme has been developed with the involvement of world-renowned road safety expert, Peter Sheppard. In addition, passionate road safety advocate, Greg Murphy, is our Programme Ambassador. Offering a practical hands-on learning experience, Holden Street Smart is a programme that aims to add to, and compliment, the great work already undertaken by NZTA, NZ Police and others in the area of road safety and driving training.

This is a one-day event providing young drivers and their parents/caregivers the opportunity to undertake supervised driving practice. The Programme takes place in safe, controlled, off-the-road environments, under the watchful eye of qualified coaches plus the parent/caregiver. This provides the parent the opportunity to also assess themselves, in order to be a better coach and mentor to their teen.

Holden Street Smart will be delivering it’s programme in the Manawatu on Thursday 6 December at Manfeild Park in Feilding. Registrations are open for $49 at www.holdenstreetsmart.co.nz

Youth Parliament 2019

Youth MP

The selection process for the Youth Parliament 2019 programme is now underway. This triennial programme gives young people the opportunity to understand and be a part of the Parliamentary process, connect with their communities, and bring young peoples’ voice to Parliament. This is a significant opportunity for 120 young New Zealanders as every Member of Parliament will select a Youth MP to represent their community (please note that this is a non-partisan initiative and MP’s carry out the process as the local constituent MP, rather than being party political).

The process for the 2019 parliament is as follows:
1. Candidate Submissions: 3 - 31 September 2018
       - Submit a short (<600 words) essay on ONE of three topics
       - Submit a short (30sec) introduction video via YouTube
2. Intro videos uploaded to Facebook for voting: 8 - 15 October 2018
3. Selected candidates attend a morning group panel meeting on 19 October 2018
