Winter Tournament Week

In Week 6 of Term Three, two of our top sports teams competed in the Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week. This is an annual event for Secondary Schools across the country.

The Senior A Netball Team competed at the Lower North Island Secondary School Netball Tournament held in Wanganui, and the 1st XI Girls Hockey Team competed in the Rosemary O'Brien Tournament hosted by Hockey Manawatu. Well done, girls! It is always pleasing to see students represent the College and themselves so well.

Football

Congratulations to our International Football Team who won the 2016 Manawatu Secondary Schools 16th Grade final.

Internationals

Congratulations to our other football teams - Awatapu College Boys 1st XI, Awatapu College Girls 1st XI and Awatapu College Junior Boys. The teams played well and should take pride in their successful season.

Congratulations to Myca Pabellon and Ella Keenan who have been awarded their Netball Manawatu Centre Umpiring badges recently. This is a great achievement and means we now have five qualified netball umpires in the Awatapu College Netball Umpiring Squad. Well done to all of our umpires who have worked so hard this season.

Speed Skating

On Friday, 26 August, two of our promising speed skaters, Sam Portch and Tuata-Nukingi Reweti-Migo, participated in a speed skating demonstration in front of the Prime Minister in Wanganui. The demonstration was part of a proposal to build a new international skating track and covered cycling velodrome for the region. Good stuff, boys!
