Sailing Success

Well done to Matida Fyles who came 2nd in the BIC class at the Wanganui Sailing Regatta recently. This is a great achievement, especially considering this is not the usual class of boat she sails in and had only sailed it for two days! She competed against 20 boats initially before qualifying for the Gold Fleet (top 6 sailors). Due to her success she has been asked to attend the open BIC Regatta in Wellington that includes a training session with Olympic Sailor Russell Coutts.

Academic Assembly

During our full school assembly on Friday 3 March, a large number of students were awarded Academic Badges in recognition of their outstanding NCEA success in 2016. It was great to see so many students receiving Merit and Excellence endorsements - in fact, this year we saw an increase in the number of students receiving endorsements across all year levels! This is a fantastic achievement and is a testament to the hard work ethic of both our students and teaching staff - well done!

Congratulations to the following students who achieved overall Merit or Excellence endorsements:

Bright Young Things - Phoenix Reid

Phoenix

Welcome back to Year 12 student Phoenix Reid who has recently returned from a skating exchange in Florence, Italy. Phoenix is the current Oceania artistic roller skating age grade champ in dance and figure skating, and it was this love for skating which saw her travel to Florence on a two-month student exchange programme. She recently spoke to the Manawatu Standard to talk about her experience - click here to read the full article. Phoenix is now gearing up for her next event, the Laurie Hastie Competition, on 18 March at the CET Arena 3 in Palmerston North. All the best, Phoenix!
