The Awatapu College Special Needs Block invites Year 7 & 8 students to an exploration day.
Thursday 7 May, at an event at Massey University, the Associate Minister for Education, Kelvin Davis, announced that the Pūhoro STEM Academy would receive government funding to the tune of $2.97 million over the next three years, to expand. Awatapu students Erana Manu, Hinemaia Winikeri, Ariana Winikeri and Matai Tait were invited along to witness the announcement. Erana presented a speech about how Pūhoro has helped her with STEM subjects, and how she is looking forward to going to university next year to start a Bachelor of Science degree.
The Mobile Dental Unit will be visiting Awatapu College from Tuesday 8th June to examine and provide preventative treatment (cleaning, fissure sealants, x-rays and fluoride treatment) where required for patients due for their annual check.
Students requiring further treatment, (fillings and extractions) will be sent an information pamphlet, medical history update form and consent form. These will need to be signed and returned to either the Mobile or the school office before any treatment is undertaken.

On Tuesday 13 April a group of Awatapu students of Māori descent attended a Wānanga held at Massey University by the Pūhoro STEM Academy. The Year 11 students pictured were participating in a challenge to build a trebuchet. They explored the elastic properties of rubber bands, and projectile motion as they competed to build the most accurate device, with the best range.
