Toward the end of Term Two, the Awatapu College U15 Rugby team were invited to play the touring Australian Hawkesbury Valley Junior team as part of an exchange organised by the Rugby Institute. The team played fiercely throughout the game and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially getting to run out and play on the field at the Massey University Rugby Institute.
Congratulations to Ashleigh Richards who has been selected in the Turoa Academy Elite (skiing). Ashleigh will be attending training every weekend for 10 weeks and then she will compete in the Nationals and North Island Secondary School Competition later this year. Congratulations, Ashleigh. We wish you all the best for the competitions.
Congratulations to the Awatapu College YES team, Matthew Anderson, Ophelia Fishsimmons, Zoe Taylor and Karl Werner, who won Judges Choice in the Regional Finals of the Young Enterprise Scheme business competition. The competition saw teams of high school pupils from across Manawatu and Horowhenua pitch their ideas for the next big thing to local business leaders. Congratulations to Year 13 student, Cassy Feasey, who won top place in New Zealand and second in the world in the Japanese language section of the Language Perfect World Championships earlier this year. Cassy's score also gained her 13th place overall in the world in any subject. The competition saw over 18,500 entrants from around the world test their Japanese skills in listening, reading, writing and diction. Click here to read the Stuff article. Congratulations to Year 9 student, Jake Dallow, who represented Manawatu as part of the Central Region Taekwondo team in Auckland recently. Jake entered 3 events which saw him win a gold medal in sparring and bronze medals in patterns and pre-arranged. Well done!
