Biology Trip to Wellington

Biology

Toward the end of Term One, a group of Year 13 Biology students and Senior International students travelled to Wellington to visit Te Papa and the Wellington Zoo. For the biologists, the visits provided an opportunity to explore aspects supporting their learning of evolution, and with the large number of primates visible at the zoo. Our closest living relatives, the chimpanzees, were cooperative and seemed to enjoy the sunny Wellington weather as much as the humans did. Not only was use made of the wide range of human ancestor skeletal material at the zoo school, but we were also privileged to be able to watch an anaesthetised gibbon receiving its biennial health check-up. For the International students, the visit was one of a range of opportunities the College provides for them to expand their kiwi experience and leave them with fond memories of NZ.

From The Board of Trustees

Due to the resignation of one of our Parent Representatives who has left the Manawatu, the Board of Trustees recently appointed Leigh Sage as a Parent Representative. This is in accordance with NZSTA criteria. If 10% or more of eligible voters ask that a by-election be held, the Board must hold a by-election within the required timeframe. At the same meeting, the Board of Trustees also co-opted Vili Igatia.

Powerboat Champion

Congratulations to former student Mason Dunlop who was recently named New Zealand Powerboat Champion for his class at the NZPBA Nationals held in Rotorua. Mason convincingly won both of his heats to be awarded the overall title for the 2017/2018 season.

Hillary Outdoors Trip

HillaryOutdoor

On Sunday 25 March, a group of Year 12 students set off on an action packed week at the Hillary Outdoors Centre in Tongariro. The programme is designed to widen students’ boundaries through outdoor activities such as abseiling, tramping and caving. Students are also faced with challenges along the way to develop their team building and leadership skills.
