On Tuesday 24 September, Awatapu College hosted the Manawatu Calcex Competition. The competition is similar to Mathex but is based on calculus problems and aimed at Year 13 students. Along with the Awatapu College team, we also had teams from PNBHS, PNGHS, Paraparaumu College, and a team made from the Puhoro STEM Academy students from PNBHS and PNGHS. Well done to our Year 9 and 10 dance group who performed at the 2019 National Dance NZ Made. Schools from all around the country performed and the standard of the competition was incredibly high. Whilst our team missed out on top placing, they performed really well and enjoyed the experience. Congratulations Georgia Lunn, Willa McLachlan, Sophie Dobson, Ella Daynes, Lilly Rooney, Sami Tait and April Holman. Special thanks to Mrs Agius for her leadership of the group.
The Performing Arts Department invite friends and family to attend the final Soiree for the year, featuring musical pieces, dance performances and drama acts.

Winter Sport and Cultural group photos are on Friday 27 September. All team members must wear their correct sports uniforms, including sports socks and footwear. As most codes will have finished their seasons by this date, this is also the time to return your ENTIRE sports uniform. If uniforms are not returned, players will be invoiced for outstanding items. Staff at the College have been involved in creating innovative teaching tools to stimulate students’ learning outside of the classroom. Students may have noticed posters around the school featuring QR codes. Students can scan the QR code which link to a Mathematics Treasure Hunt and Weekly Quiz.
Mathematical Treasure Hunt - Students complete a series of questions relating to a topic that they are learning in class.
▪ A form of revision for the students before their termly assessments.
▪ A fun and enjoyable running around with learning taking place.
▪ Use of personal device in an educational context.
Weekly Mathematical Quiz - Students scan the QR code to access the weekly quiz that runs from Monday to Thursday each week. The solutions are published every Friday.
▪ Enables students to work on their problem solving skills.
▪ Students' contribute points to their respective house.
▪ Quizzes are also catered for our special needs students with a link to mathematical activities.
