Shakespeare Festival

On Thursday 30 March, our Drama department held the Shakespeare Festival. Senior Drama students took to the stage to perform extracts from Shakespeare plays; Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. Students were challenged to interpret the scenes themselves and deliver innovative and powerful performances. One group performed in promenade; this is when the audience walk between scenes.  In this case the audience walked along the corridor to backstage, where actors were placed performing in role as supernatural beings.  The audience then came through on to the stage where they sat in traverse, and the Macbeth scene continued.  Some groups chose to perform in a traditional Shakespearian style.  The balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet was performed like this, the two actors created powerful tension between them as they declared their love for one another.
