Snow Camp

SnowCamp

On Sunday 18 September, seventeen students travelled to Summit Ski Lodge on Mt Ruapehu for the annual Snow Camp. Of the seventeen students, fourteen were beginners.

Monday dawned bright and sunny and we were all organised into rentals, lessons and exploring the slopes. Tuesday produced a second bluebird day and the boarders who were progressing well on their second day, tackled more intermediate slopes with confidence. Skiers had lessons and made good progress. Everyone rode to the top of the chairs to enjoy the view of the magin Mountain.

Each evening, groups prepared dinner and other teams cleaned up. Roast beef was delicious as was the ambrosia dessert made by the junior boys. Wednesday was snowing. Some had snowball fights while waiting for the lift. By lunchtime all were tired, wet and ready to return to Awatapu. What a marvelous mountain experience!

Congratulations

Congratulations to the students involved in the 2016 BCITO Build Ability Challenge. Their "Crooked Playhouse" won the Dulux Award for Best Decorated Playhouse, 2nd place in the Supreme Award and 3rd place in the People's Choice Award. Well done!

The judges commended the students on the technical aspects of the design and their creative concept. They also praised them on their descriptive weekly blog which included many photos and videos. The students put a lot of thought into the end client and used a fantastic selection of Dulux paints to create a striking design.

As part of the award, Dulux will be awarding Awatapu College $1,000 of painting materials for the school and individual prize packs for the students.

Cullinane Junior Sports Exchange

On Wednesday, 7 September, five of our junior sports teams travelled to Wanganui to compete in the annual Cullinane College Sports Exchange.

The teams were:
Junior A Netball
Year 10 Netball
Junior Girls Basketball
Cavaliers Boys Basketball
U14 Rugby

Congratulations to all students involved. You represented the College with pride and should be pleased with your efforts.

Winter Tournament Week

In Week 6 of Term Three, two of our top sports teams competed in the Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week. This is an annual event for Secondary Schools across the country.

The Senior A Netball Team competed at the Lower North Island Secondary School Netball Tournament held in Wanganui, and the 1st XI Girls Hockey Team competed in the Rosemary O'Brien Tournament hosted by Hockey Manawatu. Well done, girls! It is always pleasing to see students represent the College and themselves so well.
