Rep Team Achievement

Congratulations to Brianna Hayes-McEwen who has been selected in the Manawatu U15 Women’s Football Representative Team.

Congratulations to Sam Smith who has been selected in the Manawatu/Whanganui Representative Golf team to play against Wellington.

Congratulations to Hannah Parsons who has been selected in the Manawatu Secondary School's Girl's Rugby Team. 

Roller Skating Championships

Congratulations to Phoenix Reid and Emma Morgan who participated in the New Zealand Artistic Roller Skating Championships during the holidays. Emma competed in Intermediate Ladies Freeskating competition and Phoenix competed in the following Youth Ladies categories:

  • Solo Dance - Gold medal
  • Freeskating - Gold medal
  • Figures - Silver medal
  • Quartet - Bronze medal
  • Advanced Loops - 4th place

Phoenix was also selected to compete at the Oceanias competition in Brisbane in September. Congratulations!

University Open Days

On Wednesday, 2 August a group of senior students were invited to attend the Massey University and UCOL Open Days. The day provided students with an opportunity to explore future study options and get an insight into student life, accommodation and the facilities at each campus. The Victoria University and Wellington Massey University Open Days will be held on Friday, 1 September. If you are interested in attending, please see Mrs Pearson, HOD Careers, in the Careers Office.

Shooting Success

Congratulations to Kerrin Stuart and Jessica Burgess-Smith on their recent shooting success. Kerrin has been selected in the North Island Junior team and Jess has been selected for the North Island Junior and Women’s team to shoot against the South Island on 19-20 August. Jess has also been selected for the New Zealand Junior team, although she has chosen not to compete in this competition as she has also been named in the New Zealand Women’s team for Oceanias! Congratulations, Jess!

EVENTO Wearable Arts

The annual Evento Wearable Arts Awards was held on Saturday, 29 July at Manfield Park Stadium. This year there were four categories - Twenty One, Everyday Superhero,  Asian Inspired, and Green. Awatapu College had five entries:

  • Lucy Scrivener - "Sweet Child of Mine" (Twenty One)
  • Sasha Harrison - "Lucky I Have Fred" (Twenty One) and modelled by Bryony Gatehouse
  • Brianna Dobson - "Levi's 1887" (Twenty One) and modelled by Piper Woods
  • Jenny Gatehouse - 'Viredescent" (Green)
  • Lyric Sinclair - "The Tamed Garden" (Green)

All students did incredibly well to create such artistic costumes, and their models did a fantastic job on the night. A special congratulations to Sasha Harrison and Bryony Gatehouse who won the Performance Award in the Twenty One category and to Brianna Dobson was awarded the Rose City Quilters Award for Excellence in Textile Construction. Finally, congratulations to Jenny Gatehouse who was awarded both the Performance Award in the Green category as well as the Westpac Design Scholarship for the best overall design portfolio.
