We welcome Expressions of Interests from parents and students interested in joining Awatapu College in 2020. Expressions of Interest forms are available on our website or from the School Office. Once we have received this form, the School Office will be in contact with parents to confirm an enrolment interview. Enrolment interviews for Year 9 students will take place on either Thursday 5 September or Tuesday 10 September 2019 at the College.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP NOMINATIONS include co-leader, house leader, arts captain, sports captain, academic captain and student council positions. These positions are open to all current Year 12 students. The expectation is that students running for leadership positions will also be considered for house leader roles. All of those students looking to become a co-leader will have to the opportunity to speak to the school before the election.
SENIOR HONOURS AWARD NOMINATIONS are for outstanding achievement in the areas of service, sport, culture and/or arts. Nominations are for Year 13 students only.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS cover all scholarships offered at Awatapu College, e.g. Education Trust scholarships, PTA scholarships. Applications are open to all Year 13 students.
Nominations for the Board of Trustees Student Representative 2019/2020 will open Friday 23 August. Nomination forms are available from the School Office and should be returned to the Returning Officer, Denny Brunton, by 12 noon on Friday 6 September.
Earlier this year six senior students were given the opportunity to partake in the Massey Young Women in Leadership programme. The students involved were Sophia Babbage, Tori Harvey Ingham, Emma Kimura, Ashleigh Richards, Lucy Scrivener and Ashley Taylor.
The focus of the programme was to develop student’s teamwork, leadership, negotiation skills and presentation/public speaking. The group were also given the opportunity to meet with other young women who have created charities and businesses of their own.
As part of the programme, the group were tasked with creating a project for their local community. The group brainstormed many ideas and eventually chose to create small care packages for a women's based charity. Using their new found wisdom and enthusiasm, the group set about researching local charities, eventually deciding on the Women's Refuge. After meeting with the organisation, the group selected appropriate items for the care packages and approached local businesses for sponsorship. The students also collected many donations from the families of the student body and staff. Some of these donations were hand made specifically for this project, including hand sewn bags which were made with the help from staff. In all, over 200 care packages were produced, each with a personalised tag expressing well wishes. The care packages will be given to women seeking refuge in the safe houses provided by the Women's Refuge.
This project would not have been possible without the help and support of local businesses, the families of our student body and teachers - thank you to everybody for their involvement and help in the completion of this project.

During the holidays, two Year 12 Business Studies students, Nathanael Mitchell and Bach Pham, were sponsored to attend the residential Brave Thinkers programme. The intensive 5-day experience encourages students to be bold in their thinking, develop their interpersonal skills and conceptual understanding of developing business ideas, meet other business people, and combine academic learning with business decision making. Nathanael was a key member of the winning team at the event. His team’s idea was to design an app to help young addicts onto the path to recovery. Both young men thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend the programme to other students.
